In this article, we show you the tutorial to play the movies from DVD with VLC media player on your Windows or Mac instead of watching on TV with DVD player
VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
Generally speaking, you can just open the VLC media player on your Windows and Mac.
1. Select media then scroll down to open the DVD disc
2. Under the disk selection choose DVD, make sure disk is on the DVD drive you want to watch
3. Input the digital code and just press play at the buttom
However, some people can play DVDs on with VLC great, but some sadly can not access to it. Actually, I do not know the ture reason for it, below just the comments on the forum. Hope you are the luck one!
“I’ve been using VLC on my Windows PC for several years. We’ve had no problems with it.”
“I have the problem that VLC cannot play the DVD, there is no video and audio. However I used to be able to play the DVD fine on VLC on my computer and it has been happening to play another dvd borrow from my friend. Anyone been getting the same problems?”
There could be a number of reasons when it comes to these problems. These reasons vary, one reason behind it is that your VLC media player is lacking all the needed codecs; therefore, you will need to download the combined community codec pack so that it can play your DVD with a lot of ease. This option can be helpful if only the file you are playing is not supported by the codec’s available in your VLC player.
You’ll need two files: keys database and AACS dynamic library.
Keys database: get the file
- Windows: put it in C:\ProgramData\aacs\
- Mac OS X: put it in ~/Library/Preferences/aacs/ (create it if it does not exist)
AACS dynamic library:
- VLC 32 bit on Windows: put that file in your VLC directory
- VLC 64 bit on Windows: put that file in your VLC directory
- Mac OS X: put that file in ~/lib directory (create it, if it does not exist)
Tip: VLC does not yet support DVD menus so you must manually select title to play.
When the keys database and AACS dynamic library are installed correctly, you can launch VLC media player and click on Media -> Open Disc (Ctrl + D) to load the DVD movie from disc.
